NICKNAMES Kenny, blueberry
AGE 26 years
Anyone that has ever looked through a book and read about Flightmares know of their beauty. The glow that they give off, like a bright star in the night. All because of a special algae they munch on throughout their life. But anyone who has actually laid their eyes upon a Flightmare will always remember its magnificent display. Not even the words in a book can describe it.
Kenaz is just as pretty as the few Flightmares out there. In a sense, he and his entire species seem to relate quite interestingly close to the Skrill, just without a crown of spikes quite as big as theirs. Plus, their wings aren't as large and wide. Kenaz's wings are pretty large, though, for the average Flightmare. He has always been known to have unusually large wings, therefore making it harder for him to walk around casually and even fly through narrow spaces. It becomes too difficult for him. If he really wanted to fly without getting his wings ripped off, he'd be forced to tuck his wings in just slightly or completely. But they are still pretty, nevertheless. Unlike an average dragon, Flightmares have short wing phalganes, which are the "fingers" of the wing. But at the end of them, noticeable strips of bright glowing skin hang off, often roused while flying.
Kenaz also has an enlarged wing thumb, thicker and longer than usual. Other than that, Kenaz is pretty average. Of course, he has a long and narrow body, good for flying at incredible speeds and being able to flee and retreat faster than others. Running down his spine are rather short, but average spikes. They may seem soft, but they can be sharp if need be. Kenaz can also flatten these little spikes that line up along his long spine. These trail all the way down to the tip of his tail, which is parted into two little stripes. Almost like a fishes tail, in a sense. He uses it for flying, of course, but he also likes to use it as a whip if it's needed.
He has four little legs, tiny but strong. Strong enough to carry himself. He doesn't use these for anything besides walking and picking at algae, so there isn't much to say about him. He uses more of his face than anything when it comes to defense and attacking. Like a Skrill's, he has a long face, with a massive spike located on his nose stretching all the way up his long face. His eyes are located far up onto his face, right above his nostrils. This male also has about three or four spikes that stick out along the bottom of his face, right below his chin.
His body form isn't nearly as astonishing as his color and markings are. Without the amazing glow provided by the algae he feeds on, he'd be a pale blue color with little lighter dots covering his long body. A light underbelly, casual sky blue eyes...Kenaz doesn't come alive until you add in the glow. His glow is so bright, whatever he is close to also becomes a bright blue tint. It's simply beautiful. Kenaz likes to use it to someday attract a mate, but for now he is practically just a massive firefly soaring around. Sometimes he'll trick people into thinking he is sweet and loving, but he'll just scare them off and laugh about it later. Maybe even take some of their food, if they have any available. But his glow isn't flawless. As pretty as it is, it draws lots of attention, and is quite easy to see from far away and even in the night sky. Maybe not as easy during the day, but Kenaz is more active during the night.
Kenaz can be pretty territorial at times, and aggressive. Yes, aggressive and defensive. He doesn't like it when strange, unfamiliar dragons and/or people approach him without him knowing about it. If they do, and he isn't aware, chances are you'll be paralyzed within seconds. He is selfish when it comes to food, and keeping himself glowing bright. But what other dragons eat algae, anyway? If other dragons/Flightmares try to take what he has found, he will literally fight until he is nearly dead for it. This young male will do most anything for something he wants, whether it's begging like a little puppy or fighting to the death. He just likes having things his way.
But under all that aggression and selfishness is a very friendly, playful dragon. This part of him may not show very well when those who spot him first interact with him. But as friendship or companionship forms, this part of him becomes very obvious. He loves to have belly rubs, praise, etc.. He practically runs of a love. And if he doesn't get enough of it, he will raid homes just to get it. Kind of like a raccoon. If you feed him, he'll keep coming back to get more and more. But it isn't as simplistic as that. Kenaz is loyal and will die for loved ones, whether that is a human or another dragon. But it is good to keep in mind that he doesn't like sharing his food, and he doesn't like it when things happen without his okay.
Kenaz also tends to collect energy quite fast. He loves to fly around in circles, trying to rid himself of all the energy that tends to build up in his chest. The young dragon likes to challenge himself, as well. How long he can fly, how fast, how much algae he can stuff into his mouth at once. Anything to keep himself occupied and happy. Considering he is completely herbivorous, there isn't much for him to do for hours at a time. Of course, he can go swimming through streams and rivers, looking for that special algae. But otherwise he doesn't have a lot to do.
This results in to him becoming very social and affectionate. He'll go off and find someone he loves and cares about, like a friend of his or a rider, and pounce on them. He'll curl his wings around them and crawl all over them, anything to express his boredom and his energy to them. Usually he won't do anything harmful unless he is angry. The worst he could do would be nipping at some hair or a shirt. Otherwise, Kenaz is harmless.
Despite this, his patience easily wears thin, and he can get quite irritated at times. For example, if he is searching for food and it has been about two hours, he will begin to get snappy and stubborn, thus making it much harder for him. His young age doesn't exactly help this part of him, to be honest. Most young dragons are impatient and irritable. But odds are, he'll be like this throughout his life, whether he is a titan wing or nearly dead. If he doesn't get what he wants within short time, he'll throw a temper tantrum.
Kenaz had a pretty average life as a younger dragon. Of course, he started out as a single egg. His mother, a larger Flightmare with a very high temperament, guarded the egg with her life and even killed to protect it. Overall, she was a kind dragon. She just changed drastically after becoming burdened with the egg and her job to protect it. She was happy that she was lucky enough to have a son or daughter, however, it was difficult to make sure it was safe all the time. She still needed food and exercise , after all. It was quite vital that she didn't leave the egg alone for too long.
It was only once that she was really threatened. She and her egg were nested in a cave on a small island, pretty well hidden. Even though they often migrated, it was here that she decided to let her and her egg relax. But one night a massive Titan wing landed upon the island. It was male, and it was obviously in a sour mood. The soon-to-be mother instantly became defensive, and fought with the dragon until it agreed to leave them alone. But once the fight was over, she was covered in scars, and her bright glow faltered. Ironically enough, at this time the egg hatched into a tiny male Flightmare.
She was relieved to discover that he was completely healthy and pretty energetic. Also, a male. Even though she had hoped for a little girl, she was still amazed and overjoyed to see that her offspring had hatched safely. When her wounds healed, she migrated away from their previous home with the little dragon on her back, but landed on an island momentarily and fed him until he was strong enough to walk around a little.
They migrated a lot more than average, just to avoid the dangers that lurked. Before long, the young Flightmare was already beginning to glow a neon blue, and he was starting to stretch his wings to get some air beneath them. She gave him a few lessons on flight and the constant patterns on migrating, but didn't elaborate into it too much, as he was still young and curious. One day, while they were looking for some food, they came across a young Nightfury. About his age, really. His mother gave him a few lessons on flying, while he sat and admired his pretty blue eyes.
He knew well that Nightfuries were very rare dragons. Flightmares weren't even as rare as them. So, he was astonished to see one so young and innocent. But he knew, some day, it would grow to be big and scary...like most dragons they encountered. They decided to rest for a few days alongside the young Nightfury, before leaving to go find food and to complete some for flying lessons. They did offer to let him come along, but he seemed to like where he was.
Before either of them knew it, he was already in his teenage stages. She taught him a full migration pattern for about 10 years, before letting him leave on his own. It was hard to leave his mother, who he had spent much of his life with. But he was also thrilled to go out and meet other dragons...go on adventures. To show off his magnificent glow.
