we have dragons
We are a DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon RP set a decade after the first movie. Vikings and dragons have been enemies since time began. The tribe of Berk has recently reconciled with the intelligent beasts, but a new problem has arisen in the form of their forgotten neighbors, the Vikrins of Yorin, who actively hunt and overpower dragons, using them as tools for war... and they're quickly becoming a danger to the Berkians, aided by an old foe, the self-proclaimed Dragon God.

Ripcord stalked swiftly through the forests, taloned feet silent on the stiff earth. The day was chilly, and the afternoon cloudy and dark, but this made things better if anything. Tough scales and the heat his own body made from running was more than enough to ward off the pitiful claws of the cold, and in the dusky grey light his night vision was able to give him some aide, sharpening his sight to far beyond that of hunting under sunny skies. He dared not sleep in day now, for that was when the hunters came. He was getting closer to them. Closer to where he had lost his tribe. Closer to the scaleless that did these things. His claws itched as blood burned at the thought of them, but patience and a willpower stronger than iron clamped down this childish urges. Impulse led to rashness. He must always be alert. Change. Adapt. Survive.

How long now until he found the scaleless's home? Ripcord has already begun finding their traps. Crude things. A dragon as swift and flexible as Ripcord could easily evade them, and most were far too simple for the likes of an intelligent creature as a dragon to fall prey to. Likely why he had yet to see one occupied. How the human's thought dragons to be dumb enough to fall prey to such simple things . . . they must have thought them nothing more than animals.

Well, if Ripcord was to be a mere beast, then a nightmarish one he would be. The spoed stinger paused his swift run, freezing his tracks in a flash. Raising his head as the raptor straightened himself, scarlet eyes glanced around, suspicion flaring as he felt another presence. Red fins flared, his stripes vibrant against the blue-green of the rest of his form and the grey of the afternoon sky. Legs tensing, the speed stinger parted his jaws slightly, large teeth glimmering dully as he drew in the scents around him.

It was a beautiful clear winter day. Perfect for taking the dragons out and running them through drills. Brenna headed down towards the coast line Hunt and Track on her heels as she sought out a good place to run the drills. The salty taste of the sea filled the air chilling and invigorating the viking. She couldn't stop herself from smiling as she headed out. Even her dragons were in a relatively good mood, bickering gently with each other. Of course, that wasn't exactly a good thing. Brenna couldn't afford for them to be distracted when she needed to count on them to be able to hunt with her. Hopefully the drills would help drain them of their excess energy and sharpen their focus.

She whistled, long and sweet, and Hunt and Track burst into a run. The pair of speed stingers streaked over the ground immediately competing to see who could prove themselves the fastest. The scent of a nearby speed stinger distracted Track. Immediately Brenna whistled sharply, forcing his attention back on the race. The distraction cost him, and Hunt won the sprint. Disappointed Brenna marched down and smacked Track sharply across the nose. "No! Focus!" Track recoiled with a slight gurgle submitting to Brenna's demands. "Again." She whistled and once more the pair broke into a run over the land. Another whistle had them dart into the sea, and back out at yet another whistled command.

Ripcord hesitated. The scent was familiar. Speed stingers. But . . . the dragon paused, head whipping around to the coast where the scent came from. They smelled of pack. Of tribe. A rumble built in his chest, but Ripcord could sense no other speed stinger's with them. Two alone? No, something else was with them, but not more dragons. Finally the last scent caught, and Ripcord's pupils contracted into slits, his body tensing. A low hiss escaped as his thoughts echoed with one thought. Human. The scaleless had come.

Ripcord had changed location in the blink of an eye. The speed stinger bounded swiftly towards the scents, silently falling into a position overlooking the trio as the human whistled. Watching a moment, his eyes narrowed as the scaleless hit one of the speed stingers as something distracted it. It knew he was here. The whistles continued, high sharp sounds that screeched at his ears, direction the movement of the raptor pair below. Jaws parted in a snarl as Ripcord watched. Those two . . . he felt sure of it now. They had been the young of the pack. Stolen away as the tribe was decimated.

Breaking off, Ripcord swiftly moved around, flashing across the land as he circled slightly and then streaked across, a flash of red and green that very suddenly slammed to a halt before the trio, a threatening hiss leaving his jaws as the raptor bared his teeth at the scaleless, his tail weaving behind him as he brandished the stinger. Scarlet crest flared, the titanwing speed stinger loomed, far larger than either of her dragon's or her. Crimson eyes watched the other two dragons but locked on the human as a clawed foot purposefully moved forward, talons gouging the sand as he advanced a step, jaws parting as his growl rose, challenging the human and warning it off at the same time. This was no idle threat Ripcord made.

"What the-" Brenna jerked back as a sudden blur of movement came before her. She was used to her dragons being fast, but they were still relatively young and nowhere near as fast as they one day would be. So what could that be? Cries of warning echoed from her dragons as they immediately raced toward her, looking to her for what to do. Brenna pursed her lips trying to rapidly analyze the situation. The blur came to a halt, revealing a huge speed stinger. No problem. She dealt with speed stingers. Except this wasn't a normal speed stinger she was looking at. Not only was he far larger than Hunt and Track, red marked his body, designating him as the alpha of a pack of speed stingers.

Nervously she glanced around checking for other speed stingers. They were rarely alone. It was part of why her pair had bonded so tightly to her. They needed a leader, and she provided. Yes she was strict and unforgiving, but she was still theirs. She narrowed her eyes and whistled sharply, her speed stingers slinking nervously before her and growling at the leader. Brenna gripped her sword and drew it. This promised to be difficult. Matching the speed would be difficult, and it was obvious this dragon was ticked off.

Ripcord could taste fear, all three before him reacting in various amounts of nervousness or startlement. Digging his talons into the sand, he lashed his tail as he watched the female. It seemed to take her a moment to recover, but once she did, she seemed to take in her surroundings, suddenly suspicious of the land. As if there was need to. He knew perfectly well what she was looking for. Every creature that could recognize his species knew the biggest danger connected with them. The pack. No speed stinger was every without one. It was intrinsic to their very nature. But then again, so was being nocturnal. And yet the grey afternoon light revealed a lone dragon.

His eyes narrowed as Ripcord watched the scaleless whistle the young ones to her and draw her weapon. No. There was no pack. He was a solitary leader, a packless alpha. But that was all because of the scaleless. This particular scaleless and her people. They were the ones that slaughtered and stole away so much of the pack, that crippled it beyond repair. But Ripcord was stronger now. Now . . . now he could return the pain. And the young speed stingers so close, the blood of his lost pack, there was no doubt in his mind that he would kill this scaleless and her tribe in return.

Metal shone in the air, glimmering in threat to Ripcord. Advancing another step, the raptor roared, his eyes locking with the scaleless as he kept the other speed stingers in his peripheral vision. In a flash the titanwing bound forward, slowing by an incremental amount in order to gauge the reactions of the other two dragons. They were blocking his path to the true target, and while he did not fear them, carelessness was never an option.

Take out the alpha, take out the pack. It was simple logic when dealing with speed stingers. Without a leader they often fell into chaos and would fight among themselves as often as they would fight each other. But this alpha would not be easy to take down. He was a monster of a dragon, large and threatening. He could easily command a huge group of speed stingers without fear. That just made Brenna more nervous. Where was the group? She expected such a magnificent specimen to have others with him. Hunt and Track would probably not be enough to get her out alive if a pack the size she suspected attacked her. She would be lucky to escape with minimal scarring actually.

When the alpha roared though no other dragons came pouring out. And the speed stinger attacked alone. She whistled sharply telling them to hit him hard with all they had. Her speed stingers immediately leaped to the task, one attacking either side so whichever part the alpha protected would leave the other vulnerable. She swung her sword hard, but not quite fast enough to avoid being knocked back by the huge dragon. Dizzy she pushed herself up and ran in again, refusing to let herself fall out of this fight.

Ripcord had prepared for the pair to defend his target. The scaleless had forced them into a kinship with it, acting as alpha. And the young ones would not know better than to obey. Pack always came first. If only they knew what true pack was like. Ripcord wasn't naive of what went on. Any dragon on this land knew about what the scaleless did. What life these two had, he couldn't say for sure, but his eyes were enough to convince him it was wrong. And beyond that, this was vengeance. For his pack. For all those who had died and all those eggs and young taken. Theirs was a crime he would never forgive.

As soon as the female whistled, Ripcord lowered himself, flattening out to increase his speed while decreasing the targeting area. Though, he was a large target all the same, and he knew that. The two young ones went for a basic but effective strategy, splitting off to either side of him. But Ripcord could predict such a basic hunting tactic with ease. Weaving from one's reach, the larger speed stinger dug his claws in, spraying dirt in the others face as he slowed enough to avoid the stinging tail's strike and knock aside the smaller raptor with a crack of his tail, the thick muscle bound tail whipping around to hit him bodily rather than risk the inaccuracy and more expected stinger blow. No, that one he saved for the scaleless.

Pushing himself straight into her, Ripcord knocked her back with his weight, far out-sizing her meager form. Her clumsy blow deflected his tail, ringing off of hardened scales and finding a gap between them as it slid across. Hissing, Ripcord whipped around, the scent of blood tickling at his senses. A scratch. Growling, the raptor lashed his tail as if to prove it didn't even sting, his stinger swinging up as he lunged forward, hesitating to strike as he baited the younglings again. However much the scaleless thought she knew of his kind, she was wrong, and he would prove that to her. A beast he was, but no common one to be beaten so easily by his own.

Hunt's blow missed, while Track was blinded by the dirt. Screeching in irritation he didn't have time to respond before a tail hit him, knocking him off course. The alpha speed stinger continued to charge at Brenna, the viking bracing herself into the ground. She wouldn't be an easy target. Brenna was hit hard, her breath knocked out of her as the raptor fully tackled her down. Her blade hit something, a bitter smile forming on her face. At least she had managed to strike this sudden enemy. His tail swung back. Ah, so she'd hit the stinger. Good. She'd cut it off if she could.

Hunt and Track charged back in, silent as they moved. Track leaped up swinging his tail to strike the larger dragon with as Hunt dove to tackle from the side. Brenna grabbed a dagger from her clothes and swung upward hoping to strike the speed stinger yet again, and get him to back off so she could once more grab her larger sword.
